High Roller Fedor Holz Discusses Retirement

Fedor Holz is a professional poker player from Saarbrücken, Germany who specializes in High Roller events and is widely regarded as one of the best tournament players in the world. Of course, as good of a player as Holz is, he did lose the WCOOP $102k Super High Roller title to BPC’s own bencb789 (get coached by Ben here). Cheap plug? Damn right!

Ok, back to Holz. This guy had one of the most amazing runs pretty much ever in 2016. In his own words, the year was a “Once-In-a-Lifetime Heater”. He scored $16,484,153 in live tournaments last year alone! And with his previous scores, Holz has already passed the $20 million mark for tournament cashes, which puts him inside the overall top 10 on the all-time money list.

His results are absolutely amazing! Everyone who plays poker knows that the ups and downs are a real thing. When you’re on a rise and you’re such an amazing player like Fedor Holz, well, these are the kind of results you’ll see! If it was you making that much money, what would you do? Continue playing, retire, play less? What would be your decision? Here’s a video of Holz talking about just that.

Although Holz announced his retirement from playing poker professionally, I guess the game’s allure is to just too strong for him to resist. Or it could just be the money, who knows. We have seen less of Fedor Holz lately, but the times he has made an appearance, he has not shown even a hint of underperformance.

Recently, Holz has been spotted in several events at the PokerStars Championship Monte Carlo. Holz finished 4th in the €50k NL Hold’em 8-Max Shot Clock for €319k as well as winning a €5,200 Hyper-Turbo 8-Max side event at the Monte-Carlo Casino, collecting a cool €57k for his troubles. Holz also cashed in several more tournaments in early 2017, most of which were High Roller events. His 2017 winnings as a “retired-professional-turned-recreational-player” total more than $1.8 million that include in-the-money finishes in the Aussie Millions and the PokerStars Championship in both Macau and Monte Carlo. Not too bad for part time work.

In the video below, Fedor Holz describes his new venture and what else he’s been up to since retiring from playing full-time.
